So I connected to the terminal and went to verify that it was running and I am having all sorts of problems. I thought I had installed it and was running it. Then when I went to create new Stored Procs and new Views I received an error message "can only use with MySQL 5.0" In the test database I create tables and queries. I had a view of the databases mysql and test. I was able to connect through the local access on port 3306. I then downloaded the trial version of Navical v7.0.06. No error messages and I believed it was started. Installed MySQL v5.0.45 onto a MAC OS X 10.1(Panther) server. I am a newbie and I am having issues following the documentation on the MySQl site.
